Sanmar is founded in Istanbul. |
1978 |
The company begins to operate the tugs, mooring and pilot boats of the BOTAS Pipeline Corporation located in south of Turkey, on the Mediterranean.
BOTAS receives crude oil from Iraq through two big VLCC terminals. |
1982 |
Construction project consultancy is provided to BOTAS for three new tugboats and two new mooring boats. |
1986 |
A contract is signed by Sanmar for the management of the SEKA harbour towage and pilotage operations. |
1989 |
The company provides BOTAS with construction project consultancy for marine vessels – three more tugboats plus two mooring boats and two pilot boats.
These vessels are designed for ship berthing/unberthing and escorting of large size LNG Tankers. |
1990 |
The first tug of Sanmar’s own fleet, Sanmar I, is built. |
1991 |
Sanmar I begins providing harbour towage at the PETKIM, petrochemical plant in the Aegean. |
1992 |
Sanmar II is constructed. Both tugs provide a remarkable number of harbour towage services as well as undertaking deep sea towage activities in Black Sea, Aegean and Mediterranean. |
1993 |
For four years, the company carries out harbour towage operations for in Nemrut Bay in the Aegean Sea. |
1994 |
Sanmar III is constructed and delivered to the fleet and immediately begins ship berthing operations at a cement factory in a contract.
Sanmar actively participates in several fire-fighting/salvage activities along the Turkish coastline. |
1995 |
Sister tugs Sanmar IV, Sanmar V and Sanmar VI, together with mooring boat Osmaniye are constructed. |
1996 |
In a contract, Sanmar starts to provide harbour towage and pilotage services at the TOROS Terminal in Iskenderun.The latest trio of tugs begin to work with another company, at Izmit Bay.

1998 |
Dogancay, the first tug in a new series, is constructed.
Sanmar expands its operational area, as part of the TOROS services, incorporating three nearby LPG terminals (BP, AYGAZ and MILANGAZ). |
1999 |
Sanmar VII is constructed. |
2000 |
In year 2000, 5 vessels are delivered to International market. |
2001 |
In year 2001, Sanmar starts to provide harbour towage and pilotage services at Tuzla Bay in association with another company.
Sanmar completes construction of 5 tugboats and 2 pilot boats, 3 mooring boats.
3 tugboats are delivered to third parties. |
2002 |
Sanmar delivers 4 vessels to international market. |
2003 |
Construction of 40-tonne bollard pull twin-screw tug based on the design of Robert Allan Limited’s starts.
Construction of 70-tonne bollard pull ASD tug based on the design of Robert Allan Limited’s new RAmparts 3200 series starts.
Sanmar starts to provide tugboat services in Varna Port Bulgaria with its own fleet.
Sanmar delivers 2 vessels to international market
Sanmar delivers 1 vessel to local customer.
