Nehir Series, described by the following outline specification, is a twin-screw, ship-assist and general purpose tug with double-chined, steel hull. It is equipped with a heavy duty tow bitt aft, which is fitted with a swivelling tow hook and is topped with a vertical powered capstan. A twin heavy duty tow bitt is fitted at the bow along with a single anchor windlass and warping drum. A single fire-fighting monitor is mounted atop the wheelhouse and the perimeter of the vessel is heavily fendered for ship handling.

Propulsion is by two identical high-speed marine diesel engines, each driving through a reverse-reduction gearbox to a fixed pitch propeller located in a thrust-augmenting nozzle aft. Steering is by two sets of high aspect ratio twin rudders, one set located abaft each nozzle.

The vessel is suited for the performance of the following tasks:

• Assisting in docking and manoeuvring of ships berthing in port
• Providing waterborne fire-fighting capability for the protection of ships and dock facilities
• Coastal towing
