This Specification describes a high-performance ASD terminal support tug, designed for berthing and unberthing large ships, particularly oil and LNG tankers at exposed terminals, providing a high standard of tanker escort capability, and providing emergency response, fire-fight­ing capabilities, and oil recovery capabilities in the vicinity of oil and LNG terminals.

Propulsion is provided by steerable Z-drives located aft.  The vessel is equipped with heavy duty deck equipment and fendering, appropriate to ship assist service. Ship-handling is performed over the bow using a high-performance, split drum hawser winch.  Ocean towing and harbour towing is by way of a single drum towing winch on the aft deck.  To maximize the escort towing capability and seakeeping, the tug features strongly flared topsides above the waterline, and a deep skeg, biased for­ward.

The hull is constructed of all-welded mild steel, in a double chine, developable form.  The deckhouse and wheelhouse are also fabricated in steel.

The tug shall be fully outfitted for safe and efficient performance of the following tasks:

  • External fire-fighting including waterspray and Fi-Fi 1
  • Oil spill response/oil recovery (some necessary equipment shall be provided by Owner)

The vessel is equipped with automation and instrumentation for normal duty operations with a minimum crew, and a periodically unmanned engine room.
